Tal Chappar Sanctuary lies in the Churu district in the north eastern part of Rajasthan and is located 80 kms from Mandawa. The word 'Tal' means plane land. Spread in wide land of 1334 sq kms, the sanctuary is popular for its rare species of black bucks. The best time to visit Tal Chappar is between the months of November and April when the forest comes alive with various migratory birds such as montagur's, marsh harrier, pale harrier, imperial eagle, tawny eagle, short toed eagle, sparrow hawk, skylark, crested lark, ring drove, brown dove, blue jay, green bee eaters, black ibis and demoiselle cranes.

This wildlife sanctuary is known for its unique habitat for number of migratory birds. The entire area is seen flooded with rain water during the monsoon season. Tal Chappar Sanctuary is well connected through meter gauge line of Railways. The nearest airport is Jaipur at a distance of 215 km.
